Sonya Pass
  I Worship
by Chrystal Mincey

"Hello, this is Sonya," a refreshing voice says on the other end.

Rising gospel star Sonya Pass relocated to Washington, DC from her home Atlanta, Georgia, after completing law school at Emory University. Her heart led her to DC - she was in love. But God had other plans for this anointed songstress.

Singing since she could talk, Sonya sang in an R&B group in Atlanta. After relocating to DC and finding out that she was not in love, Sonya immediately found a church home at Spirit of Faith Christian Center in Temple Hills, MD. Apparently this is where her steps were ordered. It did not take long for members of Spirit of Faith Christian Center to realize that Sonya belonged there. God would later speak to Sonya, guiding her steps to minister musically, and in that she is doing quite well with her debut CD entitled I Worship.

Produced by Christopher Lewis, known for his work with Mark Kibble of Take 6 and Judith McAllister, I Worship is a stellar project. Stroking the ears of various audiences with both a groove and jazz version of Enter In, Sonya's aim to please is right on target. Her rendition of There's Something About That Name is mellow and soothing - it's hard to determine if the track is soothing simply from her voice, or the soft musical sounds which accompany that voice. Regardless, the two are a perfect combination.

Sonya declares who God is in Nobody But the Lord and gives Him praise through The Lamb of God and I Come to Worship You. She ministers to all who seek the Almighty. I Worship will certainly please all audiences with its eclectic mix of jazzy tones and contemporary gospel, set apart by the lovely voice of Sonya Pass.

"I want people to experience something about the name of Jesus," states Sonya, "there's something soothing about the name."

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
