The New Black Renaissance: Beauty And Chivalry

by Vashti Dominiqué

Welcome to UrbanKingdomMagazine.com – The New generation Of Worship. You’ll find now, and in time to come, that we represent more than just great articles and information, but we represent a fresh attitude, a rebirth if you will. And more so, we represent God. Thus, we introduce an ongoing theme – The New Black Renaissance. The more dynamic part of our theme, as it relates to this issue, is Beauty and Chivalry. What are we getting at? The truth about who we are, as God created us to be. We hope that as you surf our pages the information you consume will begin to impact your lives in a way that transforms your be-ing. The Webster’s English Dictionary states that the word be means very clearly: to live; to exist; to have a specified state or quality. Jesus said in The Bible, very clearly, in John 10:10, "The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." What this says to our generation is we are living, or being, beneath our privilege. God calls us to live an abundant life, a life liberated of sin and evil, a life that glorifies Him as His creation.

The mistake people make about the Lord is that because we are Christians we are called to live a life of suffering. This could not be more of a lie. The reality is we will suffer through some things in life. However, suffering is not meant to last. It is only a temporary state in our being. God wants us to live in abundance. What definition does the Webster’s English Dictionary give for the word abundance? It states very clearly: ample sufficiency; great plenty. To have all you need and then some. God has not called us to a life of poverty, drug addiction, and disease. God says in His Word, in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Change begins in the individual mind, the way you think, what you believe and perceive yourself and your life to be. God tells us that the enemy (Satan) came to destroy us. And we have complacently accepted the enemy’s impedance on our lives, so much so that we have lost sight of God’s promises. We have lost hope in ourselves. We received our right to vote and to live in a desegregated society and we ended the fight there. Accepting what is perceived to be freedom in this land. Accepting what is handed out to us, exchanging the truth for a lie about who we are – trading physical enslavement for mental captivity.

Brothers and sisters, there is a beautiful and chivalrous side to living, one that starts from within, from the core of our being. God created us in His image. What image do you have of yourself? Or perhaps the better question is: what image do you have of God?

The days of our accepted state of being have run their course. And now, a little more than 40 years since the days our mothers and fathers fought for our civil rights, 40 years of wandering aimlessly in this land, as did the children of Israel after God delivered them from slavery in Egypt, the moment of truth has arrived and we stand on the brink of God’s promise – thus, The New Black Renaissance.

“Awake, awake, O Zion, clothe yourself with strength. Put on your garments of splendor, O Jerusalem, the holy city. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again. Shake off your dust; rise up, sit enthroned, O Jerusalem. Free yourself from the chains on your neck, O captive Daughter of Zion.”
